Kidmat Zion (East of Zion)
Kidmat Zion (East of Zion) is a future Jewish neighbourhood of strategic importance at the eastern edge of Municipal Jerusalem. A Jewish Cooperative Society (Bnei Yaakov) legally purchased close to 600 dunams of land in the area between the years 1919-1924, in order to build a "modern-garden" neighbourhood in the heart of Jerusalem, east of the Mount of Olives and looking back to the mountains surrounding Mt.Moriah. The neighbourhood was never built and unfortunately, 70% of this Jewish owned land is today located in the village of Abu Dis, outside the borders of Jerusalem. A Jewish neighbourhood of 280-300 residential units is planned for the area. Today 6 Jewish families live on the expansive tracts of land.
